Mike Basso resides in Pearland, Texas. He is married to his wife Kathy and they have three wonderful sons, Tyler, Brady and Ryan. He attended Pearland High School and played college baseball for Alvin Community College and the University of Houston. Basso was drafted in the 18th round of the 1986 Major League Baseball draft. He has spent 35 years in professional baseball and has filled numerous roles while developing and evaluating players. Basso spent 17 of those years with the San Diego Padres as a player, hitting coach, manager and Major League advance scout. He then spent seven years with the Toronto Blue Jays organization, where he managed at the Triple-A level and was also Coordinator of Minor League Instruction and Catching Coordinator. Basso transitioned to Major League Scout and Major League Advance Scout during his 11-year stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates, working closely with the Major League coaching staff on game planning and attack strategies.
